Motor show is offered other sites

The man behind Helston Motor Show has said he is confident the event will take place next year, but in a different venue.

A disagreement over the format of the popular show prompted its hosts - Helston Community College - to tell Mick Timpson, who started the event back in 1999, that it was no longer willing to host the show.

News of the rift was revealed in the Packet last week, but since the story appeared Mr Timpson has received numerous offers of support from local people, including suggestions of alternative venues for the show.

He said this week: "I have had an offer of three different sites in and around Helston, all of which are perfectly viable. There are a lot of things that need looking into - things like access and parking - but it is something to think about. At the moment, the plan is to carry on in a different venue."

Mr Timpson added that Parc Eglos primary school, which shares the proceeds from the show with the college, had pledged its continued support, as had the Packet, which sponsors the event. The motor show, which marks its tenth anniversary next year, has raised thousands of pounds for the two schools.

This year's show, held as usual on Father's Day in June, generated £5,000 apiece - money that was officially handed over only last week.

The college, which is understood to object to aspects of the entertainment provided at the show, wants instead to host an event showcasing educational achievement in the Helston area. From Packet Newspapers...
